How the Bursary works
- Savvi has set up a committee, comprised of board members, management and a representative of McSweeney family, to administer the Bursary.
- Each year, for the foreseeable future, Savvi will ask third level Colleges throughout Ireland to tender for one Bursary, worth €20,000 per student over a maximum of 4 years, paid in equal instalments of €5,000 per annum. For example, in year 4 we would have 4 students receiving annual bursaries.
- The College awarded the Bursary will then seek applications, via the HEAR (Higher Education Access Route) Programme from students living in communities throughout Ireland which are experiencing socio-economic disadvantage. HEAR is the Department of Education’s higher education admissions scheme for Leaving Certificate students (under 23) whose economic or social backgrounds are under-represented in higher education.
- Our award of €5,000 per annum will contribute to the student’s costs over the 4 year period of their College education, whether that be accommodation, travel or other material costs.
- The Committee will choose the College that is a best fit with the Credit Union’s ethos as well as the most deserving student from the HEAR Programme.
We will provide a full update on the administration of the Bursary in our Annual Report and Accounts each year along with updates on this website as to the students awarded the bursaries.
